Maintaining Your Artificial Grass

Artificial turf maintenance

Maintaining your new synthetic turf is a breeze compared to maintaining your real grass!

Synthetic turf fibers have excellent stain resistant properties. The amount of maintenance depends on your specific situation – usage, proximity to trees and foliage, foot traffic, pets, and the amount of dust kicked up in your area.

Keeping your artificial grass looking new

Rinse Pollutants Away

If you live in an area with airborne pollutants, dust and pollen from surrounding trees, then rainfall is excellent in washing away these items. If you live in an area with little rain, occasionally spray down your new artificial grass with water.

Cleaning Pet Waste

Cleaning up solid waste from your pets is the same as real grass. Pick up the solid waste with a plastic bag, pooper scooper, etc. and rinse the area thoroughly. For heavily soiled areas, a 50/50 mixture of white distilled vinegar and water can be sprayed and rinsed with water every so often. Because we add deodorizer to the base and infill for pet turf, hosing the area down normally should do the trick to keep your synthetic grass looking and smelling fresh.

Removing Stains

For stains from your picnics such as cola, ketchup, coffee, teas, juices, ice cream, etc., Simple Green bio-friendly cleaner is an excellent turf safe detergent. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and rinse the area properly. As with any mess on any surface, the faster you clean up the spill or stain the better.

Organic Waste

Leaves, mulch from plants and trees can be cleaned off with a blower IF you are using a light motion across the top of the turf, not a downward motion. A green rake is preferrable. You want to keep your new turf as pristine looking as the day it was installed.

Fluffing Your Turf

Additionally, it’s a good idea to “brush” your synthetic lawn against the grain or sweep of the fibers for heavy traffic areas. A broom with synthetic bristles or a plastic rake are excellent choices. It will only take a moment to fluff up your artificial turf every now and then. This is nothing compared to mowing, fertilizing and watering a real lawn!

Be sure you don’t abuse your new artificial lawn. Do not drop lighted cigarettes, use candles, open flames or fireworks on or near your new turf. Anything with sharp edges that can tear the lower membrane should be kept off of synthetic lawns. Do not allow cars to idle on the turf.

As you see, most maintenance is common sense and requires very little time and effort to maintain your newly installed artificial grass. Your new synthetic grass is tough and rugged, meant to be enjoyed by your family for years to come. So get your family and pets out there and play together!
